Research grant for arsenic mobilisation approved
Since 2014, we have been collaborating with various universities, in particular with the University of Heidelberg. This collaboration has enabled us to develop and implement various approaches to drinking water treatment. The synergies work both ways; Heidelberg University helps AGAPE e.V. to successfully draft and secure external funding applications. All of AGAPE e.V.’s activities benefit people in rural areas of Bangladesh, particularly families and children. You can find out more about our research under Projects – Research & Development.

Water sampling in the fields around Kanaipur (north-east Bangladesh).
Since 2014, Heidelberg University has been conducting research into the origin of arsenic and the processes leading to its release, funded by external grants. In the current project, AGAPE e.V. is directly involved as a partner, providing staff and access to infrastructure. The project itself is presented on the website of Heidelberg University.
As was already established in the preceding SEZ project, arsenic levels in the field are significantly lower than within the settlements. This observation is now being explored in greater depth by the research proposal and may consequently lead to a significant improvement in the drinking water supply.

Using a specially constructed pump box, water is extracted from various depths and analysed in the laboratory at Heidelberg University (Institute of Earth Sciences).
